Newcastle University MFA 2015 Summer Exhibition - Alex Charrington

Today's featured artist is Alex Charrington.

Alex is an established painter who has his own screen printing workshop/studio at Cobalt Studios.

Alex writes of his work, "The compositions within these screen prints are derived from rubbings of drain covers and wooden moldings. Colour, layering and repetition transform these utilitarian geometric forms into a decorative language that is suggestive of signs and symbols within a wider quasi – ethnographic narrative."

"Despite the lack of a direct reference and meaning the resulting imagery contains puzzling likenesses to a variety of subject matter such as the plan of a temple or an early computer game."

His precise method produces works that, at first glance, appear seamless, measured and controlled. The works change on close inspection.
